Twenty years ago, three archers saw an opportunity to take the National Indoor Championships from a small single venue comp of just 100 people, to have venues in every state on the same weekend, with live scores shared between them.
Marcus Anear, Clare Barnes and James Park got it off the ground in 2006: entries jumped straight to over 600.
Twenty years on and it`s still growing with over 960 entries in 2026. ✨

Last weekend the Para Archery National squad came together with some local developing para archers for a camp to hosted by Sunshine Coast Archery Club. Over three days the camp offered time for workshops, QREs and time together to train, connect and learn from each other.
The QREs had either breezy or rainy conditions, but the squad was showing good form with some solid scores.
There were presentations from national head para coach Ricci Cheah and team manager Graham Winston around the LA28 cycle and a presentation on pressure in performance from Sports Psych Mat Grey.
The final day was a series of round robin matchplays which was great fun to have everyone together to connect and enjoy some good banter, build stronger relationships as we push towards a home game World Championships in the Gold Coast next year.
The excitement is building after the announcement of the Gold Coast 2027 World Archery Para Championships, and it`s a great opportunity for our Aussie athletes.
Para archer Tom Holland on competing at the championships in the Gold Coast: “As the qualification event for LA28, a home championship with a home crowd and a big team will allow us to establish our position as front and centre at LA28, before continuing this momentum into Brisbane 2032.”
