Olympic Team Qualifying Tournament

OLYMPIC TEAM QUALIFYING TOURNAMENT The final team qualifying tournament for the 2012 London Olympic Games was conducted at Ogden Utah today. There will be a maximum of 12 male and 12 female teams at the Games which is different from previous Games. Nine positions were determined at the 2011 World Championships in Torino Italy and this was the last opportunity for countries to qualify for the three remaining team positions in each gender. A team position also gives countries three individual positions. At the Oceania Qualifying Tournament in January 2012 Archery Australia obtained one male and one female Individual position. If a country does not obtain one of the 12 team positions they can only obtain one individual position in each gender. Following the Ranking Round at the World Cup teams who had not previously obtained a team position for the Games, were ranked and competed today for the three remaining team positions. The Australian Men’s Team were ranked 7th while the Women’s Team were ranked 17th unfortunately the Women’s teams were not eligible to compete. The Men’s Team of Taylor Worth, Sky Kim and Ryan Tyack competed today for one of the three remaining team positions. The results were – 1/8 Round Australia 214 v Turkey 204, 1/4 Round Australia 216 v Romania 203, Semi Final Australia 209 v India 221 and Bronze Round Australia 214 v Chinese Taipei 216. This now means Australia will only be sending one male and one female to the Archery event at the 2012 London Olympic Games. The two individal positions previously obtained were selected from results at the World Cup in Ogden. Archery Australia will be nominating Taylor Worth (WA) and Elisa Barnard (NSW) pending any appeals to the Australia OIympic Committee for team selection.
